About the role:

You are passionate about a variety of consumer products, the integrity of the Mojang brand and the brand’s design, as well as bringing the Franchise/s from the game platform and into other touchpoints.
This team is split between Mojang Redmond and Mojang Stockholm, so you will be working with Mojang Redmond’s Licensing and Partnerships (including Consumer Products) team.


Role expectations:

  • Creative and concepting
  • Lead creative vision for assigned projects
  • Work closely with Mojang Redmond Studio Category Manager
  • Create ideas and concepts related to new Categories, Partners, lines and items for assigned project
  • Understand how to apply trends specifically to consumer products, in relation to the Mojang brand
  • Create visual treatmentments, moodboards and mock ups related to high level vision for Partners and Categories
  • Be able to articulate rationales, feedback choices and design choices, as related to the consistency within the Program / team and across the Studio as a whole
  • Ensure all creative assets created within Mojang or by Partners on behalf of Mojang, retain the highest quality and effectively communicates brand messages. This may include the creation of illustrations (Adobe Illustrator files) for Partners, as required by the project
  • Ensure consistency in the way that assets and artwork is being applied across Partners and Categories (with the use of a style guide, if available, but also by direction from you, where not available)
  • Create and provide visual mockups (where applicable)

Feedback and Approval

  • Provide clear, written, visual and verbal feedback to Partners related to concepts, artwork and physical samples for assigned project
  • Provide approval to Partners at each stage (concept, artwork, samples, final art) / Decide when a concept is approved
  • Ensure that consistency is applied across Partner, Category, and within the program team (cross referencing other Designers and the wider Studio’s treatment of artwork /assets / IP
  • Be responsible for the proper archiving of assets and samples related to you assignments, within the given process set for the team (including documents, files, Partner files and physical samples


  • Work within processes set up by SN / Producer, Art Director and SN Consumer Products Designer
  • Share work across team


  • Work across category and with multiple Partners (and Partner types)
  • Use specific design knowledge to apply consistency in all design work produced reviewed and for feedback supplied
  • Make decisions based on alignment with business strategy and team / program goal Work on a variety of assignment types, from collections, fast refresh, continuous annual updates, activities related to Studio beats, and seasonal, to ad hoc/ one time assignment
  • Support internal facing assignments, as requested
  • Participate in knowledge sharing sessions within the team
  • Participate in creative sessions within the team
  • Support the Art Director, Senior Consumer Products Designer and SN Producer/Producer in any ad hoc tasks and duties


  • Bachelor's degree in an art or design major such as fine art, visual communications, graphic design or equivalent (i.e. a hands-on, design focussed degree)
  • 3+ years work experience relevant work experience as a Designer or Art Director

  • Strong understanding of market trends with an ability to easily translate and adapt to brand aesthetic
  • Fluent in English

Bonus skills:

  • Have experience working with fast moving consumer goods / consumer products and/or packaging
  • Profiles in the following skillsets are desirable: illustration and 3D
  • Have previous experience working in a Consumer Products / Merchandise designer role
  • Have knowledge and played of the Minecraft game
